In fall of 2011, James represented a client who was facing revocation of his parole. The Department of Corrections was trying to return the defendant to prison for more than a year. However, James was able to find uncounted sentence credit and convince the local court to apply that credit retroactively. James then convinced the DOC to back-date the discharge of the client’s parole. The result was that the client was immediately released from custody upon receipt of the signed orders from the local judge and the DOC.
James was recently successful in arguing self-defense for a client in a battery case tried to a 12-person jury. The jury agreed with the defense and acquitted the defendant of the battery charge.
James obtained acquittal for his client in a recent robbery case. After a three-day jury trial in January of 2012, the jurors deliberated for less than an hour and returned verdicts of Not Guilty to all charges in the case.
James recently won another jury trial where the defendant had been charged with burglary. After two days of trial, the jury acquitted his client who was finally able to return home from jail following more than four months of incarceration.
Steve was recently appointed to the Walworth County Condemnation Commission which hears and makes recommendations and decisions on the value of property taken by utilities and other entities.
Steve recently, after a year and a-half long battle, was successful in obtaining primary placement of a young child for his client, the father of the child. Despite a vigorous defense mounted by the mother, Steve was able to prove the mother's lifestyle of alcohol abuse, promiscuity and episodes of neglect.
Steve recently won a two day divorce trial where he assisted a woman in keeping the marital farmstead and was successful in obtaining maintenance for her. Despite an attempt by the husband to prevent the wife from staying in the household, Steve was successful in keeping the home for her.
Steve recently assisted a man who had been convicted of his OWI-7th and was facing probation revocation. Due to the arguments Steve presented at the time of the sentencing hearing, the man was sentenced to only 14 months in jail, of which he had already served 12, despite the prosecutor vigorously arguing for 3 years in prison.
Steve recently assisted a client in collecting over $300,000 due and owing to them from a vendor. Steve insisted on the vendor paying the entire amount due, despite efforts of the vendor in attempting to raise issues which they believed would allow for a reduction in payment. Steve's efforts in securing the debt due and owing to the client was of great assistance in collecting the large sum of money.
After a three (3) day trial, Steven recently assisted a local man in keeping primary placement of his daughter by defending the claim of its mother to equal placement time with the child.
Steve recently won a judgment in the amount of $250,000 for a woman who sustained broken ribs and lung injuries due to the negligence of another driver.
Steve recently received a substantial settlement on a case of a woman who suffered a tibial plateau fracture due to the negligence of another driver.
